The Whole Team
Knows Your Cut.

No single name on the door, because on any given day it takes all of us to get your order right.

The Collective Expertise

Expert Butchers,
Not One Name
on the Door

Whoever is at the counter when you walk in knows the case, knows the cuts, and can tell you exactly what you are looking at.

We do not put one person out front, and that is on purpose. On any given day the person who takes your call is not always the person who cuts your order, and the person who cuts it is not always the person who hands it over the counter. All of them need to know what they are doing, so we train for that instead of building the shop around one name. It means you are not out of luck because somebody has the day off.

Ask whoever is standing there what the difference is between grass-fed and grass-finished, or why your steak develops a deep purple color inside its chamber-sealed package, or which cut is going to work for what you are actually cooking on Saturday. You will get a real answer. Helping you land on the right cut is the part of this job we enjoy most, and it is the reason people drive here from well beyond the local area for a specific order.

The full explanations behind every cut we sell live over here.

How We Do It

Sourced, Trimmed,
and Sealed
the
Same Day

Three things happen to every cut before it reaches you, and none of them are shortcuts.

Everything we sell is fed, raised, and produced in the United States, and we can tell you where. Our Black Angus comes from family ranches in South Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa, raised specifically for beef rather than pulled from a dairy herd at the end of its working life. Our grass-fed beef is also grass-finished, all the way through, and it comes from Colorado. Our pork is 100 percent Michigan, raised and processed in-state. Our poultry is Amish-raised, the traditional way.

Then we trim it. Fat and gristle come off before anything hits the scale, so what you pay for is meat. We started packing in house in September of 2022 because doing it ourselves was the only way to hold that standard every single time.

Not Your One Stop Shop

A Specialty Butcher Shop,
on Purpose

We narrowed down instead of spreading out, and the case is better for it.

There was a version of this shop that carried a bit of everything. We stopped doing that on purpose. Cleaning out the aisles that had nothing to do with meat meant every square foot and every dollar goes into the case, and everything we carry moves fast enough to still be worth carrying.

It is why the poultry stays consistently stocked, why the sausage is made here from our own Michigan pork instead of trucked in, why we render our own tallow, and why we can special-order almost anything and have it for you in about a week. We are not trying to be your one-stop shop. We are trying to be the place you make a separate trip for.

Here is what is actually in the case.

The Goal Was Simple

Our Story

It started with a friendship between Lou, Robert, and Todd, long before the doors ever opened.

Plymouth Prime Meats began long before the doors opened: it started with a friendship. Lou, Robert, and Todd met while cheering on their daughters in the Walled Lake High School Marching Band and Color Guard. What began as casual conversations on the sidelines quickly grew into a close bond built on shared values: work hard, commit to excellence, treat people with kindness, and always offer a fair price.

The three of them often talked about creating something meaningful together: a business where those values weren’t just ideas, but the foundation of every decision. That vision eventually took shape, and Plymouth Prime Meats was born. From day one, the goal was simple: provide the highest-quality meats with genuine, friendly service that reflects the heart of a small, community-focused business.

Thanks to the support of our customers and the dedication of our team, Plymouth Prime Meats has grown into a trusted local butcher shop known for premium cuts, house-made specialties, and a commitment to doing things the right way. Every day, we work to honor the standards that started it all.

In late 2025, we experienced a heartbreaking loss with the passing of our dear friend and co-founder, Lou. His absence is felt in every corner of the shop: in the laughter he brought, the pride he took in the work, and the way he treated everyone like family. Lou’s legacy remains woven into the fabric of Plymouth Prime Meats, and we carry it forward with gratitude and determination.

Lou’s wife, Nancy, has lovingly stepped into his role within the business. With her strength, grace, and unwavering support, she helps ensure that the spirit Lou brought to Plymouth Prime Meats continues to guide us.

Plymouth Prime Meats isn’t just a business: it’s a story of friendship, family, and community. We’re honored to share that story with everyone who walks through our doors.

Interested in Working
Behind the Counter?

We build this shop around a whole trained team, so we are always glad to hear from people who want to learn the trade.

We do not lean on one name here, which means this shop only works if there is a real bench of people who know what they are doing. So we pay attention when somebody good comes through the door. We are not always hiring, and we would rather tell you that straight than have you leave something with us and never hear back. But we would much rather know who you are before a spot opens than go looking after one does.

You do not need years behind a counter to start a conversation with us. Showing up, working carefully, and actually wanting to learn how meat from a loin turns into a steak and why the trim matters will get you further here than a resume will. If that sounds like you, call the shop or stop in and ask for whoever is running the counter that day.

Come See Us,
or Call Ahead

Either way, tell us what you are cooking and we will help you land on the right cut.

Calling ahead is the fastest way to get exactly what you want, cut the way you want it, ready when you get here. Walking in works too, and we will try to accommodate your request, given availability. Whichever you prefer, we would rather talk it through with you than have you guess.
